Time it right
Schedule Santa's arrival about 30 minutes after guests have settled in. Children who are already excited and comfortable in the space react with pure joy rather than surprise-induced tears. For evening visits, aim for 6–7 PM — early enough for young ones, late enough to feel special.
Set the scene
Dim the overhead lights and use warm lamps or string lights before Santa knocks. Play soft Christmas music in the background. A plate of cookies and a glass of milk on the coffee table signals to little ones that Santa is expected — and gives him something to enjoy during the visit.
Prepare the children
Tell kids Santa is coming to visit — but keep the exact arrival time a surprise. For toddlers or shy children, show them a photo of Santa beforehand so the big red suit is familiar. Remind older siblings to play along and help the younger ones feel safe and excited.
Have wish lists ready
Encourage each child to think of two or three things they would love for Christmas. Written lists are wonderful, but Santa is equally happy to hear wishes spoken aloud. If you have ordered a Personalized Letter add-on, have the children's names and ages handy so Santa can reference them naturally.
Plan your photos
Decide in advance where you want the main photo moment — in front of the tree, on the porch, or in a cozy chair. Clear the area of clutter beforehand.
Introducing fur family members
Pets can be part of the magic! Introduce dogs on a leash for the first minute so they can sniff Santa's boots and get comfortable. Cats and smaller pets do best when they can observe from a safe distance and approach on their own terms. Santa loves animals and is happy to include them in photos. Please inform Santa at time of booking that it will be for pets as Santa has a special suit for them.
Corporate & group events
For office parties, school events, or neighborhood gatherings, designate a single point of contact to coordinate the queue. Groups of 10 or more benefit from a simple sign-in sheet so Santa can greet each child or guest by name. Allow roughly 3–5 minutes per family or small group for a relaxed, personal interaction.
Keep the magic alive
After the visit, reinforce the experience with a follow-up story at bedtime. If you ordered a Naughty or Nice Certificate, present it the next morning as a keepsake. The North Pole Postmark Letter arrives by mail in the days following — a wonderful reminder that Santa was really there.
